Every year, 51 women grace the Miss USA stage with hopes of winning the title. While only the final night of competition is televised, there is a preliminary competition in which all the contestants compete prior to the final night. The scores from the preliminary competition determine which contestants move onto the finals.
Part of the preliminary competition is the swimsuit phase. This counts for 33% of the contestant’s score. With swimsuit being such a large part of Miss USA, you can bet these ladies are in tip-top shape. Months of hard work at the gym shines on the stage while ladies sport sponsored swimwear.
With so many amazing contestants this year, it was hard to narrow down the top walks. Every contestant looked incredible. However, after watching and re-watching the preliminary competition, here are my Top 20 swimsuit walks of Miss USA 2017.
20.) Miss Idaho USA – Cassie Lewis
This photo does not do her walk justice. She was great onstage. Her walk was bouncy and fun. She landed every pose and her turns were fierce. She has a naturally slender frame and she used that to her advantage.
She was one of the first to come out in this color block number. It was a great choice for her body. The different colors in the top added curves and kept the attention to her face. The bottom matched but was not distracting. Overall, a great performance from Idaho this year.
19.) Miss Maine USA – Brooke Harris
Her abs are goals. She looked incredible onstage. I love the simplicity of the suit she chose. It let her superhuman toned body stand out. Her poses were fantastic and highlighted her six-pack.
I also love the way she styled her swimsuit. Yes, it is a basic black swimsuit. This is the most flattering type since black is a slimming color. However, in a sea of colors and patterns, it is easy for this style to get lost. She made an impact with big hair and big hoop earrings. Her hair was full of volume and bounced as she walked. Paired with the shimmery earrings, my attention was on her the entire time she strutted down the runway.
18.) Miss Tennessee USA – Allee-Sutton Hethcoat
Again, hello abs. It is clear to see in this picture why Allee made the Top 10. She looks fierce, confident, but with just a hint of sweetness.
One of the high points of this entire look is the color. A peachy/salmon/orange color is a risk onstage for someone with a fair complexion. It can wash a contestant out. However, Allee had just the right ratio of neon to spray tan to pull off the look.
She did not have as much energy as some of the other girls landing her at number 18 on my list. However, her performance during the finals was full of energy and spunk. The adrenaline rush of making the Top 10 must have been a huge boost!
17.) Miss Utah USA – Baylee Jensen
At 6’5″ in her heels, Baylee was one of the tallest contestants in recent history. She is also the daughter of Miss USA 1989 Gretchen Polhemus-Jesen. Like her mother, Baylee has legs that go on for days. She also has perfectly portioned torsos and arms along with bone structure to die for. She looked like a supermodel walking down the runway.
Baylee is an athlete with an incredible body. I loved that she slicked back her hair to show off her gorgeous cheek bones and smile.
16.) Miss Wisconsin USA – Skylar Witte
Skylar was adorable. She didn’t really have a lot of sexiness to her walk and that is okay. It’s not her. She is fun, bubbly, and sweet. Just look at her smile! I love that she stayed true to herself during her walk and kept it light and playful. It was not forced in the least. I cannot stress how adorable she looked. Her performance made me smile.
15.) Miss Rhode Island USA – Kelly Swanson
Kelly is such an inspiring contestant. She beat a brain tumor to compete on the Miss USA stage. After such a life-changing event, it clearly gave her an unique appreciation for this opportunity. She soaked up every second she had on the stage.
She has an incredible body and her hair is perfect. Her smiled glowed and she walked with incredible confidence. The black swimsuit is okay but she would have landed higher on my list is she had picked one of the color block designs. With golden skin, the yellows would have popped and enhance her incredible figure in a way the plain black one fails to do.
14.) Miss Texas USA – Nancy Gonzalez
I am shocked she did not make the Top 10. She had an incredible walk. She was fierce and confident. Her smize is killer in this photo and she engaged the entire audience. I love the lighter hues in the swimsuit. She has a gorgeous tan that pops against the paler pink and blue. It also enhance her chocolate hair and eyes.
13.) Miss Pennsylvania USA – Cassandra Angst
Va-va-voom. Cassandra looks amazing. She has gorgeous red hair and she let that shine by picking a simple black swimsuit. It was a great choice for her. With the colors of the other swimsuits, her long red hair would have clashed. This black swimsuit helps her use one of her best features to her advantage. She also has curvy hips compared to a smaller bust. The black bottom was slimming and balanced out her proportions to give her a great hourglass figure.
12.) Miss Florida USA – Linette De Los Santos
Of course Linette is on my list. She is literally queen. However, she did earn her spot.
Linette ended up with this swimsuit. I have never been a big fan of ruffled swimsuits but it works with her personality. Also, being from Florida which is known for its beaches in trendy locations like Miami, it makes sense she chose the most unique style.
The style works well for her. The ruffled top adds curves to accentuate her tiny waist and highlight her natural figure. The black bottom is simple to balance out the busier top. It also highlights her super long legs.
11.) Miss Kansas USA – Catherine Carmichael
Her walk was killer. She strutted herself and embraced her flawless body. Months and months in the gym must have been required to get a figure like this!
I love the color block swimsuit. The multiple colors all flatter her dewy dark skin. The pin straight hair highlights her heart shaped face and high cheekbones. Her choice of poses made her already long legs look longer and stand out among the contestants.
10.) Miss Alaska USA – Alyssa London
Since I had no internet access during Miss USA week, I was unable to watch the preliminary competition. So, when I heard Alaska, a state that never makes the finals, called into the Top 10 I was shocked. However, after watching her preliminary performance, I can see why she made it to the Top 10.
She looked fabulous in swimsuit. The salmon color flatters her golden skin and dark hair. She has envious abs and muscle definition. She enjoyed the preliminary competition and truly embraced the moment. All of which showed in her walk and made her shine onstage.
9.) Miss Maryland USA – Adrianna David
I love this photo. Her pose and facial expression are a perfect 10. Adrianna had one of the most glamours walks of the night. Her turns were well done and again her poses were killer.
She also channel Hollywood glamour with her big beachy waves freshly sun-kissed skin. Her smile lit up the stage. She was a crowd favorite.
8.) Miss Delaware USA – Mia Jones
I loved her overall vibe and appearance during her performance. Mia had a lot of spunk and sass in her walk. I love the short bob haircut as it adds that much more attitude. She has an incredible smile that lit up the stage. Her poses added length to her great legs. She commanded attention.
7.) Miss Minnesota USA – Meridith Gould
It is very easy to see why she made it to the Top 3. She looks stunning. Her body is perfectly toned and tanned. The icy blue swimsuit pops with her skin tone and hair. She looks like a Pinterest model for an Elsa inspired swimsuit.
Her walk was also on point. She walked with so much bounce and confidence. She also kept it flirty and fun with the way she hit her turns.
6.) Miss Nebraska USA – Jasmine Fuelberth
Jasmine was my favorite in this particular swimsuit. It was perfect for her. She was the only one who truly pulled off this color. Her tan skin and blonde hair make her a bombshell in this pink number. She looks like a real life Barbie. She also has a killer body. Her poses enhanced her great legs and made her one of my favorite walks of the night.
5.) Miss Alabama USA – Baylee Smith
Baylee is so cute. She is a bright ray of sunshine on the stage. While I think Nebraska pulls off the color better, Baylee had a perfectly balanced walk with elements of sweet and sexy. She was entertaining to watch which is one of the best assets a contestant can have. She has an incredibly long torso and the cut of this swimsuit perfectly highlights it.
4.) Miss New York USA – Hannah Lopa
A modern day Jessica Rabbit. Hannah oozes a beautiful mixture of New York and Old Hollywood glam. Again, the black swimsuit is perfect for red hair. Her body shows months of workouts and healthy eating. Her spin was on point. It reminded me of the spin Tori Cowen, Miss Florida 2014, did during her swimsuit walk at Miss America 2015.
3.) Miss New Jersey USA – Chhavi Verg
New Jersey was my favorite to win the crown. She had an incredible swimsuit walk in both the preliminary and final night of competition. She had so much confidence. She was empowering to watch as she sashayed down the runway. Her body is incredibly healthy and is flattered by the swimsuit. I also love her super healthy pin straight hair. She definitely channeled a look very similar to Miss Thailand 2016 during the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant and it worked in her favor.
2.) Miss California USA – India Williams
India was a contestant on America’s Next Top Model and it’s comfortable to say she learned a thing or two during her time with supermodel Tyra Banks. She coolly and calmly strutted down the runway. Her warm smile was welcoming to the judges, audience, and camera. Her poses were that of a classically trained model. She had so much confidence and class onstage. The neon pink is also great against her dark skin and hair.
1.) Miss Illinois USA – Whitney Wandland
By far my favorite of the night. She had a perfect mix of everything. Her swimsuit choice was great, her walk was perfect, and her styling was on point. Her waist is so tiny and her arms are in fantastic shape. This pose highlights both of these amazing features.
Her hair styling was gorgeous and moved great with her walk and turns. Her smile was genuine and inviting. She engaged the audience, judges, and camera flawlessly. This perfect mix lands Whitney in the number one spot on my list this year!
